Dr Mwangelwa Mubiana-Mbewe, MBChB, MBA is CIDRZ Director of Paediatric HIV Treatment and Prevention Services
Dr. Mwangelwa Mubiana-Mbewe is a paediatrician who joined CIDRZ in 2005 and, upon seeing the need for dedicated paediatric HIV services, led the establishment of paediatric and adolescent HIV care and treatment services in Lusaka, Western, Eastern and Southern provinces of Zambia. Her work over the years has included overseeing paediatric HIV prevention services including early infant male circumcision and PMTCT services. She currently serves as director for Paediatric HIV Prevention and Treatment, a positon she has held since 2012. She is an active member of the national HIV technical working group and provides valuable input on paediatric HIV policy issues, guidelines, training and mentorship packages.
Apart from overseeing paediatric HIV service provision, Dr. Mubiana is also involved in research and has previously led IMPAACT studies as Investigator of Record for the Zambia site and currently leads CDC funded implementation science research in PMTCT.
She has a passion for quality clinical care and loves to teach and give technical support to health workers to increase their skills and capacity to care for paediatric patients with HIV.
