Calling for Expression of Interest to attend the NIH/NIAID Training and Mentorship Workshop

As part of a Global Infectious Disease Research Administration Development Award for Low and Middle-Income Country Institutions, Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ) through a project entitled: Strengthening Research Administration and Grant Management Systems in Zambia will be conducting a three (3) days training targeting not for profit non-government organisations (NGOs), universities and research institutions.

The training is aimed at strengthening institutional research administration and grant management systems through training and mentorship strategies within Zambia, with the the ultimate goal of improving grant application; oversight of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) grant awards and compliance with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding policies as well as federal research funding requirements for NIAID-supported foreign institutions in low to middle-income countries.

Some of the topics to be covered by the training include but no limited to the following:

  • NIH overview
  • Locating funding opportunities/interpreting requests for application and understanding different award mechanisms
  • Introduction to application portals
  • Developing internal timelines for submission
  • Developing checklists and or other master templates for submission documents and information
  • Budget and budget justification guidelines and practice sessions
  • Responding to a just in time request
  • Receipt and interpretation of the notice of awards
  • Introduction to the office of management and budget (OMB) circulars
  • Progress reporting
  • No-cost extensions
  • Re-budgeting guidelines
  • Federal cash management system
  • Grant close out procedures
  • Federal financial report (FFR) reporting
  • Defining team roles and responsibilities
  • Developing internal checklists and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for adherence to deadlines and reporting requirements
  • Question and answer session and maybe an opportunity to have one on one time with the experts.

Please note only limited spaces are available therefore,  interested participants should submit the following in PDF format to NIHTraining@cidrz.org not later 2nd October, 2019;

  1. A motivation letter of not more than 250 words explaining why and how the training will contribute to your current role and improve your knowledge and skills.
  2. Curriculum Vitae for the participant.
  3. Letter of support from an authorized representative of your organisation.

Kindly note that the training will be held in Lusaka in March 2020 on dates  to be communicated to successful applicants ONLY.  Successful Participants will however, be required to meet own  travel, accommodation and any other related costs to and from the venue.
