Newborn & Child Health
With generous support from the U.S. National Institutes of Health, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and The ELMA Foundation and The ELMA Vaccine and Immunization Foundation, CIDRZ has worked in collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Zambia to expand and improve newborn healthcare services.
In July 2013 Zambia launched the Newborn Health Scale-up Framework for 2013-2015 to accelerate the implementation of newborn interventions at both community and health facility levels. Key interventions endorsed in the national strategy are management of preterm labour, infection, and asphyxia among preterm infants, and Kangaroo Mother Care.
In response, CIDRZ has focused its efforts and resources on the reduction of Under-5 mortality, including mortality due to prematurity, birth asphyxia, sepsis, and improving vaccine cold chain capacity.
