CIDRZ donates medicines and medical supplies worth over ZMW 7million to MoH through the USAID TBLON Project

The Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ) has donated assorted medical accessories amounting to seven million, four hundred seventy-nine, five hundred sixty-nine kwacha (K7,479,569) to the Ministry of Health (MOH) through Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA).

CIDRZ Deputy Chief Executive Officer (DCEO), Mr. Emmanuel Qua- Enoo, said the donation was made possible through funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under the CIDRZ Tuberculosis Local Organisations Network (TBLON) project.

Mr. Qua- Enoo added that over the last 3 years USAID, through CIDRZ, has awarded 10 million dollars to support the MOH in implementing the TB Programs in Lusaka and Southern Province, of which $3.9 million has been used to support the Ministry of Health’s country-wide COVID-19 response.

“The USAID’s funding to CIDRZ of $3.9 million through the TBLON project to support the COVID-19 response across the country has the following objectives: To reduce morbidity and mortality from COVID-19, mitigate transmission, and strengthen health systems, including to prevent, detect, and respond to pandemic threats also to accelerate widespread and equitable access and delivery of safe and effective COVID-19 vaccinations.” Mr. Qua- Enoo said.

The deputy CEO thanked the American People who have made the donation possible through USAID – Zambia and pledged that CIDRZ will continue backing Governments’ position and urged all citizens to join the National COVID-19 Vaccination campaign and get vaccinated or boosted for those that are already vaccinated.

“Remember to continue observing all the COVID-19 prevention guidelines as provided by the Ministry of Health.” He added.

The Minister of Health Honourable Sylvia Masebo has thanked CIDRZ for the kind gesture.

“We want to thank you on behalf the government and the people of Zambia. We want to thank CIDRZ for this, but we want to especially thank the US government and its people that have made it possible for CIDRZ to be able to help us support the government of Zambia through the Ministry of Health through this important donation.” Hon. Masebo said.

The Minister had since assured CIDRZ that the donated items will be put to good use.
