Dr Izukanji Sikazwe, Chief Executive Officer at the Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ), moderates a multi-country panel discussion on strategies to sustain epidemic control across Africa.

The 16th Annual National Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Tuberculosis/Sexually Transmitted Infections/Viral Hepatitis (HIV/TB/STI/VIRAL HEPATITIS) Conference has brought together leading experts from across Africa for critical discussions in the fight against HIV and related diseases.

This morning, two dynamic, multi-country panel discussions were held to advance efforts in combating HIV and addressing associated health challenges.

The first panel, chaired by Professor Peter Mwaba from Apex University and Dr Lastone Chitembo from the World Health Organisation (WHO), focused on strategies to achieve epidemic control and close persistent gaps in HIV response efforts.
Panelists discussed practical solutions for improving access to healthcare, enhancing treatment adherence, and reducing disparities in marginalized communities.

The second panel, chaired by Dr Caroline Olwande of the United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and co-chaired by Dr Izukanji Sikazwe, Chief Executive Officer at the Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ), examined ways to sustain epidemic control across Africa.

Discussions emphasized the significance of strengthening health system resilience, integrating emerging technologies, and maintaining momentum toward achieving and surpassing the 95-95-95 targets (ensuring 95% of people living with HIV know their status, 95% of diagnosed individuals are on treatment, and 95% of those on treatment achieve viral suppression).

With these robust discussions and actionable strategies emerging from the panels, the conference continues solidifying its role as a critical platform for driving the African continent toward sustained epidemic control.
