Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is on the rise in Zambia, yet many people remain unaware of its risks and impact, leaving them vulnerable to the disease. A study based on the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019 by the Centre of Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ) emphasises the urgent need for a multi-pronged approach encompassing public education, proactive screening, and bolstered healthcare training to enhance diagnosis and treatment.
The CIDRZ study reveals a troubling link between CKD and prevalent health issues: high blood pressure, diabetes, and the increasing adoption of unhealthy lifestyles are identified as significant risk factors. This underscores the urgent need to educate the public about these dangers, empowering individuals to make informed choices and take preventative measures to safeguard their kidney health.
Early detection is also crucial, as CKD often develops silently with no noticeable symptoms in its early stages.
Combating CKD requires collective action to reduce its impact on individuals, families, and the healthcare system. Read More:https://doi.org/10.1186/s12882-023-03078-5
