CIDRZ Receives a State-of-the-Art BD Fortessa X20 Flow Cytometer, Bolstering its Immunology Assay Capabilities

BD Fortessa X20 Flow Cytometer

True to its vision of promoting a healthy Zambia, the Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ), through its Enteric Disease and Vaccine Research Unit, has received a state-of-the-art BD Fortesa X20 Flow Cytometer from the International Society for Advancement of Cytometry (ISAC), bolstering its immunology assay capabilities.

This advanced equipment strengthens CIDRZ’s ability to conduct cutting-edge immunological research and provides an essential platform for training, capacity building, and regional scientific collaboration.

The BD Fortessa X20 is equipped with up to five lasers and can simultaneously detect up to 18 parameters. Its high-throughput option enables the analysis of large sample sets in as little as 15 minutes.

Further, it supports a wide variety of studies, including phenotyping of surface and intercellular markers, cytokine profiling and secretion assays, cell cycle and proliferation analysis, cell viability and death detection, and metabolic assays and receptor occupancy studies, which are all crucial in advancing critical research.

The platform will serve as a training hub for both local and international scientists, clinical trial staff, MSc and PhD students, and early-career immunologists.

By integrating advanced technology, with a strong emphasis on training and collaboration, CIDRZ, through its Enteric Disease and Vaccine Research Unit, aims to become a leading regional centre for immunology research and scientific excellence.
