Empowering Peer Leaders for the ZAIMARA Intervention: A Collaborative Training Initiative.

Mwati Chipungu, a Health Promotions Trainer at CIDRZ, guides adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) and their mother figures on building stronger communication and having open, informed conversations about HIV, STIs, and PrEP during a training session in Lusaka.

CIDRZ, in partnership with the UAB – The University of Alabama at Birmingham UAB) and University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), recently trained peer leaders to deliver the ZAIMARA (Zambia Informed, Motivated, Aware, Responsible Adolescent Girls and Young Women) and Health Promotion curriculums.
The ZAIMARA curriculum aims to strengthen communication between adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) and their mothers/mother figures (MF) to have healthy discussions on Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), sexually transmitted infections (STIs), Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP). The Health Promotion curriculum focuses on discussions on #nutrition, sexual violence awareness, mental health and substance use.
