A delegation from the Gates Foundation comprising of Dr Yogan Pillay, Director of HIV and TB Delivery, Dr Tendai Nyagura, Senior Programme Officer, and Mr Patrick Odawo, a Consultant, visited Chawama Level I Hospital to appreciate the implementation of Gates-funded programmes led by the Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ).

The delegation was received by the Medical Superintendent, Dr Raphael Nzoolo, who led a tour of the facility.  The visiting delegation was accompanied by the CIDRZ team, led by Dr Monde Muyoyeta and Dr Anjali Sharma.

During the visit, the team gained practical insight into the hospital’s integrated service delivery model, including the management of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD), HIV treatment and care, Tuberculosis (TB), Advanced HIV Disease (AHD), and the use of data systems to support clinical decision-making. The Gates Foundation delegation also commended the facility’s efforts in viral load monitoring and strategies to improve retention in HIV care.
