Strong health systems depend on people getting the right medicines at the right time. A well-functioning pharmaceutical sector makes this possible by ensuring that safe, affordable and quality-assured medicines reach the communities that need them most, especially in underserved areas.
In support of this goal, the Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ) recently joined regional stakeholders at the 10th Ecumenical Pharmaceutical Network (EPN) Biennial Forum, held at Ciela Resort in Lusaka, under the theme “Sustainable and Resilient Health Systems for Last-Mile Access in Africa.”
The forum brought together pharmaceutical professionals, healthcare providers, researchers, development partners and policymakers from across Africa. Participants explored practical ways to strengthen health systems and improve access to quality medicines and healthcare, particularly in underserved communities.
CIDRZ has supported pharmaceutical services in Zambia for more than two decades. Its work spans pharmaceutical supply-chain management, digital health, pharmacovigilance, pharmaceutical care, workforce development, research and implementation science.
At the forum, CIDRZ strengthened strategic partnerships and contributed to discussions on innovative approaches to decentralised distribution and last-mile access that can be adapted across African health systems.
