The Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ) held a farewell ceremony for its outgoing Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr Izukanji Sikazwe, celebrating her exceptional leadership, dedication, and legacy over the past 12 years.
The second send-off ceremony brought together staff and management, who came to honour a leader widely credited with transforming CIDRZ into one of Zambia’s most impactful health and research institutions.
Delivering his remarks, CIDRZ Deputy Chief Executive Officer Mr Nana Appiah Qua-Enoo thanked Dr Sikazwe for her unwavering commitment and for helping the organisation grow to new heights.
“You planted a seed, and we will ensure it blossoms even further. Thank you for everything you have done for this organisation. We will continue working collaboratively across all teams to nurture and advance the institution’s vision, values, and impact,” said Mr Qua-Enoo.
He wished Dr Sikazwe well as she steps into her next chapter.
Speaking at the same event, CIDRZ Director of Human Resources Ms Mwansa Lombe praised Dr Sikazwe’s leadership style, describing it as a blend of high standards, compassion, and integrity.
“She led us with extraordinary grace, compassion, and high standards. She held us accountable and sometimes pushed us hard, but always because she believed in our potential. She knew what we were capable of and never settled for anything less,” Ms Lombe said.
And representing the CIDRZ Management Forum, Ms Kaluba Musonda highlighted the transformational impact of Dr Sikazwe’s leadership, noting that her vision turned long-held dreams into tangible achievements.
“Under your leadership, CIDRZ has grown in both stature and spirit. One of your greatest legacies, our very own building, is something we only dreamed of. You believed in CIDRZ’s future, and through that belief, you gave us a future,” she said.
In her own words, Dr Sikazwe expressed mixed emotions as she bid farewell to what she called her second home.
“I am grateful for the opportunity, but it is bittersweet to be leaving. This place has become home. I know which buttons to push and which ones not to. But we are leaders. Leaders build strong teams and keep moving forward,” she said.
Dr Sikazwe encouraged the team to remain steadfast in their commitment to CIDRZ’s mission and to build on the foundation they have created together.
She also took a moment to express her heartfelt gratitude to all employees for their dedication and support throughout her tenure.
“Thank you all for the incredible journey. We have learnt from one another, grown together, and achieved so much as a team. I sincerely appreciate every one of you.
