The Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ) recently hosted a panel of experts to discuss key findings from the One Health Baseline Study and the future of Zambia’s multisectoral health strategy.
The panel featured Dr Raymond Hamoonga, National One Health Coordinator at the Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI), Dr Paula Barry Walsh, One Health Lead Specialist from Sustainable Food Systems Ireland (SFSI), Mr Victor Kagoli from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Dr Charles Maseka, Director of Veterinary Services at the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock and Paul Somwe, Strategic Information Manager from CIDRZ.
The discussion was facilitated by Dr Doreen M Shempela, Director of Public Health Policy, Diplomacy and Communications at ZNPHI.
Discussions focused on aligning the study’s recommendations with Zambia’s One Health Strategic Plan, addressing institutional challenges such as licensing and strengthening policy communication and implementation.
The One Health Baseline Study is a collaborative research initiative led by CIDRZ, in partnership with the Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI), Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Fisheries & Livestock (MFL), Ministry of Health (MoH), Lusaka City Council (LCC), and supported by Sustainable Food Systems Ireland (SFSI) under the Zambia Ireland Sustainable Food Systems Strengthening Programme, an initiative of the Government of Ireland.
