The Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ) has donated a mobile clinic caravan to the Eastern Province Health Office (EPHO) to strengthen its community health service delivery in the province.
Speaking when he received the caravan on behalf of EPHO, Eastern Province Minister, Honourable Peter Phiri, said the caravan will aid government’s efforts to strengthen Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) services, which have been identified as one of the key strategies to attain HIV epidemic control.
He added that the caravan will help mitigate the gaps in VMMC services in the province, ensuring more boys and men have access to this life-saving intervention.
“We are grateful to CIDRZ for donating this caravan and wish to sincerely thank them for their continued partnership in health initiatives, particularly in the area of HIV services,” Mr Phiri said.
And CIDRZ’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) sponsored VMMC project Demand Creation and Communication Officer Bertha Makumba said the caravan will help communities living far from health facilities who cannot normally access a health centre or hospital.
She said this contribution to the EPHO will help bring health services closer to people, thereby reducing health disparities.
The caravan will be used to deliver differentiated health services including VMMC, Cervical Cancer screening and HIV Testing Services.
