Meet Nasho Mukosha, a dedicated Tuberculosis (TB) treatment supporter at Ipusukilo Clinic in Kitwe, Copperbelt Province. As a TB survivor, Nasho understands firsthand the challenges and struggles associated with the disease. His personal experience fuels his passion for supporting others battling TB.
Nasho’s comprehensive training in TB case finding, sensitisation, counselling, and contact tracing has equipped him with the tools necessary to address the multifaceted challenges of TB awareness and treatment within his community. “I take great joy in educating individuals about TB, dispelling myths, and fostering a deeper understanding of the disease”, he says.
Despite his dedication, Nasho faces significant obstacles, including resistance from individuals entrenched in misconceptions, such as associating TB with witchcraft. Nevertheless, he remains committed to combating these misconceptions and promoting TB awareness.
“I have utilised my training to assist individuals with TB in undergoing screening and adhering to their treatment. I provide essential support and care to empower them to manage their health effectively. I firmly believe that my role is crucial in the fight against TB,” he stated.
Nasho’s work is driven by a commitment to early TB detection and treatment, which plays a vital role in reducing morbidity and limiting the disease’s spread in the community. His efforts bring Zambia closer to its goal of eliminating TB by 2030.
Nasho is one of the dedicated treatment supporters under the Ministry of Health supported by the @USAID TBLON project implemented by the Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ). This initiative collaborates with the Zambian government to strengthen community TB case detection and diagnosis.
