Nosiku Sibeso: Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid Provider Advancing Cervical Cancer Screening in Mongu District

Meet Nosiku Sibeso, a midwife nurse at Mongu Urban Clinic also known as Lewanika Urban Clinic.

Nosiku is one of the six Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) providers recently trained by CIDRZ in collaboration with the Ministry of Health through Western Provincial Health Office funded by PEPFAR through CDC Zambia.

Through this training, Nosiku has gained valuable knowledge in cervical cancer screening and interpreting VIA results.

She has been empowered to identify abnormal cases more effectively, ensuring that patients receive the care they adequately need.

In her role, Nosiku is dedicated to educating women about the importance of early detection and treatment of cervical cancer, striving to make a meaningful impact on their health and well-being.

“I have learned a lot about interpreting VIA results. In the past, I might have referred cases without fully understanding them. Now, I can identify abnormal vessels, recognise a VIA positive result, and differentiate between cervical warts and normal reflections from the camera flash. This knowledge is invaluable,” she noted.

Nosiku stated that she will use the knowledge gained from the training to empower her colleagues at Mongu Urban to enhance their cervical cancer screening capabilities.

“Just as I was mentored by someone trained, I can now support others at my clinic. We will be able to manage more cases at our facility, leading to better patient care outcomes,” she added.

Nosiku’s dedication embodies the spirit of making a difference in the lives of women at risk of cervical cancer, as she strives to enhance her knowledge and that of her colleagues to improve patient care.
