The Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ) Central Laboratory is among the first 8 Private Pharmacies and Diagnostic Centres that have been accredited by the National Health Insurance Management Authority (NHIMA) to provide health services under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
Speaking during the accreditation Ceremony, NHIMA Director General James Kapesa said he was happy to announce the first 8 Private health care providers that have been accredited by NHIMA to enhance access by NHIMA members to receive the benefits of insured services under the National Health Insurance Scheme. This brings the total number of accredited facilities to 140 countrywide.
“In September 2020, NHIMA responded to concerns expressed by members of the NHIS regarding their ability to access drugs, medical supplies and diagnostic investigations from the private sector, by inviting applications from private pharmacies and diagnostic centres to apply for accreditation as required by the NHI Act No 2 of 2018,” said Mr Kapesa.
“It is the intention of the Authority to expand access to services in the private sector that will complement services provided in the current network of accredited public facilities and this historic milestone is a step towards the expansion” He said.
And CIDRZ Deputy Chief Executive Officer Mr Emmanuel Qua-Enoo thanked NHIMA for the trust and opportunity to partner with CIDRZ.
“Please be assured that our laboratory provides first class, accurate diagnostics to our clients and we will provide the same excellence in service to members of NHIS,” Mr Qua-Enoo said.
