Effectiveness of the Common Elements Treatment Approach (CETA) in treating unhealthy alcohol use and co-morbid mental health problems among people living with HIV in Zambia.

Feasibility and Acceptability of Common Elements Treatment Approach (CETA) and a Brief Intervention (BI) for adults with HIV and unhealthy alcohol use at public sector primary HIV clinics in Lusaka, Zambia.

DESCRIPTION

Unhealthy alcohol use commonly intersects with HIV in Zambia. Yet, evidence-based alcohol treatment is lacking within most HIV treatment and prevention programs. BIs may be inadequate and more advanced treatments, which can address complex alcohol use and comorbid mental health, may be needed. We now present results from a pilot study where CETA (www.cetaglobal.org), a transdiagnostic model that is delivered over 6-12 sessions, was compared with a single-session alcohol BI. Treatment was provided by HIV peer counselors. In this webinar, we will share study results and highlight the barriers and opportunities to integrate these alcohol treatments into HIV clinics in Zambia of CETA in HIV clinics. A question and answer (Q/A) session will follow the talk.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND :  The 60 minute webinar is designed for policy makers, researchers, clinicians and decision makers who are actively working in HIV care and mental health in Zambia.
