CIDRZ’s USAID-funded Controlling HIV Epidemic for Key and Underserved Populations (CHEKUP I), through the Determined, Resilient, Empowered AIDS-free, Mentored and Schooled (DREAMS) program, implemented the Anakazi (women) digital literacy program at 37 DREAMS centres across the country.
The digital literacy training was deliberately customised to empower Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) with digital skills needed in today’s fast-paced digital society where communication and access to information are increasingly evolving through digital technologies like internet platforms, social media, and mobile devices.
The training equipped AGYWs with basic computer skills needed to use the internet and social media platforms productively to, for instance, advertise their goods and services to reach a wider clientele.
A total of 2500 AGYWs completed the program in 2022, and many of them are utilising their new skills to improve their entrepreneurship, while others managed to secure internships and jobs in organisations.
This training is but one of the many activities implemented by the DREAMS project. In 2022, more than 85 000 AGYW were enrolled in different DREAMS activities, including mental health counselling, caregiving, and family planning methods, among others.
