CIDRZ Participates in the WHO/TDR Clinical Research Leadership Fellowship Workshop in Tanzania

CIDRZ joined other African institutions at a TDR/WHO workshop in Tanzania to prepare for the rollout of a 6 –12 month Clinical Research Leadership Fellowship

The Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ) recently participated in a two-day workshop hosted by the World Health Organisation’s Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) in Tanzania for four new African Training Partner Organisations (TPOs).

CIDRZ joined other prominent institutions, including Zambart, Institut Pasteur de Dakar, and Kilimanjaro Clinical Research Institute.

The CIDRZ delegation comprised Chief Scientific Officer Dr Monde Muyoyeta, Project Principal Investigator Professor Samuel Bosomprah, and Clinical Trials Unit Coordinator Dr Ethel Kamuti.

The workshop, which was held from 5th  to 6th  February 2026, was aimed at preparing the TPOs to pilot a 6 –12 month fellowship designed to equip fellows with practical clinical research skills through flexible placements at their clinical research units.

CIDRZ will host two fellows; one will receive training in partnership with The Global Health Network, and both will participate in intensive, well-structured mentoring. This will be followed by a one-year re-entry grant at their home institutions, featuring structured and customised leadership capacity-strengthening activities, alongside support for an independent research study.
