The Ministry of Health (MOH) through the Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) Program, with Technical Assistance (TA) from the Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ), has this year circumcised 141,119 males from January 2022 to September 2022 in its strive to end HIV/AIDS.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) funded program is currently providing TA support to Western, Eastern, Lusaka, and Southern Provincial Health Offices.
CIDRZ remains committed to supporting the joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS 95-95-95 treatment goals that aim at diagnosing 95% of all HIV-positive individuals, providing antiretroviral therapy (ART) for 95% of those diagnosed, and achieving viral load suppression for 95% of those treated by 2030.
The VMMC program held a planning and review meeting whose objectives were:
– Reviewing the Technical Assistance successes, lessons, and challenges in the Financial Year 2022
– Review planned activities and implementation strategies for Financial Year 2023.
And Head of VMMC, Mr. Lane-Lee Lyabola urged the team to continue working hard in ensuring a Zambia in which all people have access to quality health care services as spelled out in the vision for CIDRZ.
