CIDRZ and Mulungushi University Explore Strategic Partnership to Strengthen Research and Health Systems

The Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ) and the Mulungushi University School of Medicine and Health Sciences have initiated discussions on a strategic partnership aimed at advancing research, education and health systems strengthening in Zambia.

During an engagement meeting held at CIDRZ Headquarters, Dr Kingsley Kamvuma, Head of the Department of Pathology and Microbiology at Mulungushi University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, outlined several opportunities for collaboration between the two institutions.

The proposed areas of collaboration include joint research initiatives, postgraduate education, student training and placements, faculty development, grant acquisition, and strengthening laboratory and data science capacity.

The discussions also focused on creating sustainable platforms for innovation, scientific knowledge generation and evidence-based solutions to address Zambia’s evolving health challenges.

As part of the engagement, both institutions explored the development of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that would provide a framework for long term collaboration and institutional growth.

Dr Kamvuma noted that the proposed partnership reflects a shared commitment to advancing scientific excellence and building local capacity in research and healthcare.

CIDRZ reaffirmed its commitment to fostering strategic partnerships that strengthen Zambia’s research ecosystem and support the development of the next generation of health professionals and researchers.

This collaboration is expected to contribute to stronger health systems, enhanced research output and increased opportunities for young scientists and healthcare professionals in Zambia.
