CIDRZ Joins the Vice President in Supporting the Mutomboko Fundraising Gala Dinner.

Her Honour, the Vice President of the Republic of Zambia, Dr W.K. Mutale Nalumango, has underscored the importance of culture, values, and traditions in shaping individual character and strengthening national identity, noting that preserving cultural heritage remains critical for future generations.

Speaking at the Mutomboko Cultural Fundraising Gala Dinner held at CIDRZ VenYou Zambia recently, Dr Nalumango highlighted the need for continued efforts to ensure that children and young people grow with a strong understanding of their cultural heritage while navigating global influences and knowledge systems.

She noted that culture, values, and norms play an important role in building character and strengthening communities, adding that traditional knowledge and practices must continue to be embraced alongside formal education.

Speaking at the same event, CIDRZ Board Chairperson Mr Charles Mpundu reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to working with communities, traditional leaders, and government to advance sustainable development and improve health outcomes across Zambia.
Mr Mpundu noted that for over two decades, CIDRZ has partnered with the Government of the Republic of Zambia and communities to strengthen healthcare through research, health systems strengthening, and public health service delivery.

“Culture is a powerful catalyst for positive change. Whether promoting HIV prevention, encouraging uptake of vaccines, supporting maternal and child health, or advancing research, our impact is amplified when we engage communities in ways that honour their traditions, values, and aspirations,” he said.

He highlighted CIDRZ’s continued contribution to Zambia’s health sector through evidence-based interventions. In the past year, CIDRZ-supported programmes provided HIV testing services to more than 32,000 people, linked over 2,300 people living with HIV to treatment, reached more than 17,000 young people with sexual and reproductive health information, and screened over 50,000 women for cervical cancer.

Mr Mpundu also highlighted CIDRZ’s support in Luapula Province, working with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Defence to strengthen TB and HIV services by improving detection, access to treatment, and community-based care.

He emphasised that strong communities are built when culture, leadership, and development work together, noting that investing in cultural heritage and community well-being strengthens the foundation for a healthier and more resilient Zambia.

CIDRZ remains committed to partnering with government, traditional leaders, communities, and stakeholders to advance evidence-based solutions that improve the health and well-being of all Zambians.
